Here are some of the many pieces of software
which can assist you in the design and maintenance
of your website, and some general PC/Internet
related software. All of the titles on this
page are available to run on a Microsoft
Windows 32bit platform, however some manufacturers
may have released versions of their software
that will run on other platforms.
The first titles listed are covered in
detail, and are generally the programs ITC
use on a day to day basis. Below them, you
will find a list of various popular software
titles and links to their associated websites,
together with a couple of the best sites
for locating new software.
If you are a Mac or Linux user who would
like to contribute suggestions of software
you are familiar with to this list, ITC
would love to hear from you. Please email
webmaster@itcinternet.net
with details of the software, it's use,
the supplier, and the platform you run it
on. Thanks!

Microsoft
FrontPage provides an easy introduction
to WYSIWYG HTML design which is popular
with new developers, while maintaining
a rich combination of features ensuring
it never loses it's place on many
experienced designers systems. ITC
support FrontPage Server Extensions
(FPSEs), which can be enabled upon
any of our Windows hosting plans.

Macromedia
Dreamweaver is ITC's
WYSIWYG HTML design program of choice,
and has been since version 1.2 was
released back in 1999. Famous for
their Flash
plug-in, Macromedia
continue to be one of the driving
forces in the way the Internet looks
and feels from the user's point of
view.

.Edit
is an extremely powerful syntax highlighting
editor for Internet technologies,
aimed at developers who like to get
right into their coding! ITC
have been involved with the beta testing
of this product, which is developed
by one of our clients.
Once you've got used to it, you'll
never go back to a text editor again!

Textpad is the ultimate text editor!
It handles files with thousands of
lines, is incredibly easy to use,
and has never crashed once in all
the time ITC
have been using it! If you are currently
using notepad, take a quick look at
this and you won't regret it! This
program has saved literally hours
of time purely with it's multi-file
search and replace utility, let alone
the rest of it's impressive list of
features.

When you've designed your website,
you'll need to upload it to our server.
Unless you are using FrontPage for
publishing, that means you'll need
an FTP client. CuteFTP
has been around for a long time, and
despite constant competition in this
highly visible market, CuteFTP
still provides one of the highest
value for money pieces of software,
combined with an array of powerful
FTP options. While there are freeware
ftp alternatives, ITC
still use CuteFTP
for our site management requirements!

For quick and easy image viewing,
ACDSee
is an ideal tool. If you want to create
and edit images, you'll need one of
the full blown graphics packages listed
below, however for simple viewing
of images in a directory, you can't
beat ACDSee!

|
The
Bat! is an incredibly powerful
email client, which supports multiple
accounts, POP3/IMAP/SMTP, all sorts
of security and authentication options,
highly configurable filtering, and
anti-virus plug-ins. ITC
switched from using Microsoft Outlook
/ Outlook Express several years ago,
and recent virus attacks specifically
targeting the Microsoft email clients
have largely unaffected our systems
due to the use of this client. Once
you get used to the interface, you'll
grow to love it!

More than 90% of Internet browsing
is done via either the Internet
Explorer or Netscape
Navigator clients. If you're looking
for an alternative, ITC
strongly advise you to check out Opera.
Originally it was designed as a cut
down browser, but while the latest
version maintains it's streamline
looks, it is extremely well designed
and a serious contender in the role
of default browser! Available on numerous
platforms, ITC
wish the Opera
developers the best of luck!

Finally a small plug for WinAmp,
which has been playing on this system
for the entire duration of this site
design. Still neat and tidy in an
industry where the more obnoxious
the interface, the better, as far
as the developers seem to be concerned,
WinAmp
will always have a place on the ITC
systems for our MP3 and other audio
requirements.
