This page is specifically geared towards technically-minded people. If you don't already understand what DNS and/or MX is, you don't need to bother with this page. You aren't missing anything! ITC handle all of the DNS and MX configuration for clients using our hosting services on their behalf.

ITC's extensive international infrastructure can be of use to your company even if we don't currently host your domain! We provide a comprehensive range of both primary and secondary DNS (Domain Name System) and MX (Mail Exchange) services to companies around the world, offering a level of resilience to your services that are almost impossible to parallel while using just one ISP.

Why do you need backup DNS / MX Services? If your primary dns or mail server go down or are unreachable, and you don't have secondary servers in place, no name resolution (how people locate your website!) and no email will be delivered until your primary servers come back online. ITC can configure our servers to continue to resolve any domain name queries and accept any incoming mail sent to your domain(s) during this period. Then when your email server comes back online, all messages in our queue will be automatically forwarded to your mail server for local delivery!

In the same way it's important to back up your data, you should protect your domain and it's email in the same way. In addition to server failure, backup services help prevent data loss during:

• Netsplits
• Server Maintenance (Patches / Software Updates / Hardware ugrades)
• Server Reboots
• Connection Outages / Upstream Router failure

These services are fully automated, and because of this the annual fees are low. MX services include an allowance per month, which is the upper limit of messages that are likely to be forwarded. We won't initially block additional messages, however if your account consistently requires a higher throughput we will have to discuss upgrading you to a different account.
